Eulogy

Am I cursed with love's flickering flame?
Or am I just getting burned?
The lesson of failure and try, try again,
Is one I wish I never had learned.

We learn from the past, it's always close by;
A scar that will never face.
The happy memories infected with
mistakes you never made.

No faith in God to stop the rain,
Only prayers can keep me warm.
It had to be too good to be true,
The calm before the storm.

Love has a shadow, and it has a name.
Love rarely wins in the fight.
Prisoners of war are kept in the dark,
So how can they see the light?

The heart becomes so easily lost
With one disarming smile.
In the middle of nowhere, I've been here before,
It's just another mile.

It's a different world, a scared new frontier,
That much is plain to see.
It's all right here between the lines
Of the eulogy love wrote for me.
