Yule

Occurs: around December 22nd
Also called Winter Solstice, Yuletide, Alban Arthan.

Tonight will be the longest night of the year. Unless you count young children on December 24th. After tonight, the daylight hours will begin to grow longer again. Winter is leaving and today marks the eventual return of springtime.

We honor the Goddess for giving the sun life again. A time of rebirth, and renewal, and to see the world with innocent eyes. Spells casted at Yule bring peace, joy and harmony to the world both inside and outside of our own existence. As we reap what we sow through the harvest season, now we are reborn with the knowledge of those experiences. Our wisdom begins to show.

It is customary for witches to decorate a Yule tree, and to burn the Yule log from last year. To prepare a Yule log, take an oak log, charge it in a majick circle and store it in a sacred space for the next year's Yule log burning. This practice is to ensure fuel for the remainder of the Winter, and to honor the Oak King, who represents rebirth and life, and his victory over the Holly King, who represents the darkness of death.
